Tops up weekly income for pensioners — 2026/27 rates. An estimated 850,000+ eligible pensioners never claim it.

State Pension, private pensions, earnings and most other benefits combined.
The first £10,000 is ignored completely.

Weekly top-up

Covers Guarantee Credit only. Doesn't include Savings Credit (a smaller top-up only available if you reached State Pension age before 6 April 2016) or housing cost additions, both of which could increase your award further. Estimate only — apply at gov.uk/pension-credit to find out for certain.

Pension Credit tops your weekly income up to a guaranteed minimum once you've reached State Pension age (currently 66) — £238.00 a week if you're single, £363.25 for a couple in 2026/27. If your income is below that line, Pension Credit bridges the gap. Two things stop people claiming who are actually eligible: owning your home doesn't rule you out, and savings don't either — the first £10,000 is ignored completely. Even a small award is worth claiming, because it acts as a gateway to other help: Council Tax Reduction, a free TV licence at 75+, help with NHS costs, and Housing Benefit if you rent.
