Uses the statutory weekly pay cap of £751 (from 6 April 2026) and a 20-year service cap. This covers the legal minimum only — many employers offer enhanced redundancy pay above this, which your employer would confirm separately. The first £30,000 of combined statutory and enhanced redundancy pay is tax-free.

Statutory redundancy pay depends on three things: your age during each year of service, how many full years you've worked (capped at 20), and your weekly pay (capped at £751, even if you earn more). You get half a week's pay for each year worked under 22, a full week for each year aged 22–40, and one and a half weeks for each year aged 41 or older — which is why older, longer-serving employees get notably more. You need at least 2 years of continuous service to qualify at all, and the first £30,000 of redundancy pay is tax-free.
